What is this?
The nephron is a super tiny, amazing filter inside your kidneys. Its main job is to clean your blood by taking out all the waste and extra water, which then becomes pee. This helps make sure your body stays healthy and gets rid of things it doesn't need.
Key Parts to Explore
Glomerulus
This is a tiny ball of blood vessels that acts like a coffee filter, letting waste and water out of your blood.
Bowman's Capsule
This cup-shaped part surrounds the glomerulus and collects the liquid that has been filtered out of the blood.
Renal Tubule
This long, winding tube helps your body take back useful things like water and nutrients, and also adds more waste to be removed.
Collecting Duct
Many renal tubules connect to this final tube, which gathers the waste liquid (urine) before it leaves the kidney.
Did You Know?
Did you know that if you uncoiled all the tiny tubes of the nephrons in just one of your kidneys and laid them end-to-end, they would stretch for several miles!
